While there are no imminent plans for the US to go completely cashless, there are a lot of retail and restaurant locations that, due to COVID-19 and the difficulty in getting small change from their banking institutions, have decided to go cashless and take only credit card payments.

Many European countries are nearly cashless – for example, only 2% of transactions in Sweden are cash-based. Will the US follow suit? Should we? How will that affect business? What will that mean to consumers? What are the “unintended” consequences to society?
